It’s almost time for those three little words that kids dread to hear, but have moms doing a little dance in their heads. Back. To. School.
I always like to be prepared for anything. I never was a Scout, but I like to have the peace of mind in knowing that if anything comes up, I’ll be ready. Headache? Stomachache? Need a stamp? My purse is Walgreen’s.
Back in school, I remember the uneasiness in the pit of my stomach if I had to buy a pen from the school store because I lost mine or (ack!) had borrow a sheet of notebook paper. Who runs out of notebook paper?! I simply was not that person who was unprepared. I was supposed to be the go-to if someone else forgot, lost, or ran out of something. That was my job. I was Walgreen’s.
Save your kids this kind of horror this year. Send them back to school prepared so they can be the go-to kid, too, not the kid bumming supplies off of everyone else. They need a Back to School Survival Kit. Perfect for keeping in their locker, desk, or backpack.
I have put together a DIY kit that I could have used back when I was in school.
Included are the basic school necessities plus a little more the kids might need when they have to go back to school all day long.
- Pens – black ink & blue ink
- Pencils
- Pencil sharpener with built-in eraser (with enclosed part for the shavings, don’t want to be making a huge mess!)
- Highlighter
- Mini stapler
- Mini staples refill (don’t want to be running out when the friends are all trying to staple their reports before deadline – your kid will be the go-to!)
- Washable glue stick
- Scissors
- Post-it Notes
- Container of paper clips, push pins & binder clips
- Pack of Band-Aids (for run-ins with those viscous sharp notebook paper edges)
- Pack of Tissues (very helpful for those kids with allergies to almost everything or whose parents won’t let them stay at home with just a case of the sniffles)
- Pack of of breath freshening strips (no explanation needed)
- Lip balm (I have included individual packs for sharing & who wants to go all day with chapped lips?!)
- Pencil box container to put everything in
I have made up a pink kit and a blue kit, but hey, no gender color rules here – go for whatever colors they like. My littlest nephew would so be going for the pink – yes, his favorite color. Speaking of my nephews (I have three), they may be getting back to school survival kit gifts really soon. But, not too soon. I don’t want to the bearer of bad news that their summer vacation is almost over. That’s their parents’ job. Love being the auntie!
What would you put in your DIY back to school survival kit that I missed? Let me know, post a comment.
